The little Quicktime movies with the software are very helpful in getting started. 1200dpi seems to be the best setting for trade-off between file size and quality. Overall, I'm very pleased with this scanner as an affordable way to convert color slides to digital. It tends to wash out details in the photos. The dust and scratch removal seems to work very well, but use it sparingly. I have color slides taken by my grandfather 50 to 60 years ago. Just load the software, plug it in and you're ready to go. Pros: The price went up at least $50.00 since i bought this.
